How It Works

At Afterwise Records, we pride ourselves in our persistent transparency. Before starting on your project, we go the extra mile to ensure every aspect of our work is thoroughly communicated to you, the artist. No tricks, no gimmicks, and no fine print. In order to honor these values, we have provided a breakdown of our process below.

Pre-Mix

Before our engineers can start on your mix, we will request a folder consisting of three important files:

Your project's wet tracks as WAV files (with your effects enabled on each track)

  1. Delete any unused tracks.
  2. Label each track with a meaningful name.
  3. Keep all desired effects and plugins ENABLED.
  4. Check automation and fix any unwanted pops, clicks, or other artifacts.
  5. Consolidate each track, making sure there is only one region per track.
  6. Line up each track to start and end at the same time.
  7. Disable any effects on the master bus.
  8. Bounce every track as a WAV file with the following settings:
  • Normalization OFF
  • Dithering OFF
  • Bit depth and sample rate stay the same as your project

Your project's dry tracks as WAV files (with your effects disabled on each track)

  1. Duplicate your project from above.
  2. In the copied project, DISABLE all effects on each track.
  3. Bounce every track as a WAV file with the following settings:

One WAV file of your wet project and one WAV file of your dry project

  1. Bounce your wet project (with effects enabled) as a WAV file.
  2. Bounce your entire dry project (with effects disabled) as a WAV file.
  3. Consolidate all requested files into a folder for your mixing engineer.
  4. Send a Google Drive or Dropbox link with your folder to afterwiserecords@gmail.com.

After reviewing your project files, your mixing engineer will send an email confirming that your project has been approved and is ready to be mixed! Upon confirmation, we recommend booking a mix consultation to touch base with your engineer to provide any thoughts and ideas about what you want from your mix. We want your mix to be everything you could ever imagine, so our mix consultations will always be provided free of charge.

During Mix

Sit back, relax, and wait for the magic to happen.

Post-Mix

After your engineer finishes mixing your project, they will email you a Dropbox or Google Drive link to a 32-bit, 192,000 Hz Hi-Res Lossless WAV file AND a 16-bit, 44,100 Hz Lossless WAV file of your final mix, which will be completely prepped for mastering. If you're ever unhappy with any aspect of your mix, our engineers are more than happy to revise it until you're satisfied; we're not happy until you're happy.
Our work does not stop at the end of the song — we will always work to make it right.

Pre-Master

Before our engineers can start on your master, we will request one important file:

Your final mix as a WAV file

  1. Make sure your final mix has a sample rate of at least 44,100 Hz and a minimum bit depth of 16-bit.
  2. Send a Google Drive or Dropbox link with your file to afterwiserecords@gmail.com.

After reviewing your final mix, your mastering engineer will send an email confirming that your project has been approved and is ready to be mastered! Upon confirmation, we recommend booking a mastering consultation to touch base with your engineer to provide any thoughts and ideas about what you want from your final master. We want your final product to be everything you could ever imagine, so our mastering consultations will always be provided free of charge.
